Background

Ethiopean supermodel Liya Kebede founded resortwear brand Lemlem in 2007 to help keep Africa's cultural heritage alive by supporting artisan handweaving. Lemlem collaborated with H&M in 2021.

Known for

The Plunge Neck collection of resort wear dresses are Lemlem's bestsellers. Breezy, flattering, and its beautiful soft cotton fabrics are 100% handwoven.

Initiatives

Lemlem's core mission is to preserve the artisanal art of weaving in Liya's native Ethiopia. The brand has expanded, working with artisans in Kenya and creating swimwear in Morocco. She works to create a pathway out of poverty for women artisans in the African continent through the Lemlem Foundation.
